Powerful Storytelling
"Through powerful storytelling, hands-on activities, and deep conversations, attendees walked away with a greater understanding of what it truly means to belong.
I can honestly say I was moved to tears throughout the entire workshop. There were moments where I found it difficult to even speak and provide input because the experience was so powerful and eye-opening. The facilitator, Kristy, did an incredible job creating empathy through their interactive approach, and I truly believe this is an event that everyone should experience.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event so impactful."

Beautiful Way
"I had the privilege to attend a training all designed and completely organized by the wonderful Kristy. It was fabulous and taught us all so much. Consider taking it next time it’s offered. It was a beautiful way to start the day with connection and understanding. We all need to be more understanding of what others in our community and world go through."

Enlightening Experience
"I had the most enlightening experience. I attended The Journey to Belonging: Empathy and Understanding for Immigrants.
I wasn’t aware of all the categories into which people coming to the United States fall. Documented? Undocumented? Immigrant? Migrant? Refugee? Asylum Seeker? Amazingly, illegal isn’t one of the categories. Ms. Szkudlarek, through interactive exercises, was able to distinguish among these groups of people as immigration laws, regulations, and policies remain in a fluid state. Furthermore, when role-playing people in these categories, Ms. Szkudlarek revealed that these people have extreme difficulty in obtaining government assistance despite what we have been told.
One especially moving exercise involved being placed in a situation where I had to decide whether to stay in Findlay or attempt to go elsewhere about a cataclysmic event. No electricity. No Internet service. No news services. Limited resources. General lawlessness. What would you do?
In the end, Ms. Szkudlarek managed to enhance my understanding of immigrants and provoke empathy. I look differently at this situation now. I’ve also taken the time to read the books Ms. Szkudlarek recommended, which has led to further resources. Everyone should take this workshop."

Empowered
"It expressed the frustration and dehumanization that immigrants and refugees face when coming into our communities. I am empowered to speak confidently and with facts on an extremely important topic that affects many people."

Deeper Understanding
"Gives a deeper understanding of immigrants and clears up misconceptions. The debunk activity is just the tip of the iceberg. Wonderfully delves into the differences of immigrants and unnervingly puts participants in the shoes of a daunting, disorienting, and inhumane process."

Shining a Light
"I really enjoyed the blend of activities. We were learning, interacting, and EXPERIENCING! I wish more people can be enlightened by this workshop. I would hope it changes the negative attitudes and allows us to become a beautifully diverse and welcoming society. Thank you very much for shining a light by sharing your knowledge and compassion. Much appreciated!"
